Highlights

The YT-28631 voltage tester is a universal tester that can operate, among others as a traditional test tube, and also as a wireless voltage indicator. It allows you to check the presence of electric voltage, detect AC voltage, e.g. under a plaster, as well as conduct a cable continuity test and check the condition of batteries or accumulators. The presence of voltage is indicated by the illumination of one of the diodes located in the tester housing.

Sampler Functions

  • AC voltage detection by contact method: 70-250V
  • AC voltage detection by induction method: 70 - 1000V
  • checking the battery condition by contact method: from 1.5 to 9V
  • cable continuity test using the contact method: 0 - 100 MΩ
  • sound and light signaling (LED diode)
  • Tester sensitivity adjustment for the inductive method: [H] high - [L Low

Contact Method

It allows you to detect voltage, check the condition of the battery and perform a continuity test. To check the presence of phase in the socket, set the tester to [O] position, then insert the tester tip into the hole in the socket. The lighting of the red LED indicates the presence of a phase. It is not recommended to touch the contact on the side of the handle for this method. Touching the contact does not pose a risk of electric shock, but increases the sensitivity of the tester and may distort the indication.

Check Battery Condition

Set the tester to [O]. Then, while touching the contact on the side of the handle, apply the tester tip to the battery terminal marked "+", and with the other hand touch the battery terminal marked "-". The lighting of the diode means that there is still voltage in the battery. The tester allows you to check the condition of batteries or accumulators intended for powering various electrical devices in the range from 1.5V to 9V. Do not use this method to test higher rated voltage batteries or accumulators. Batteries and accumulators connected to an electrical circuit must not be tested.

Checking The Cable Continuity

Set the tester to the [O] or [L] position. Then, touching the contact located on the side of the handle, apply the tester tip to one isolated end of the cable, and with the other hand grasp the other, isolated end of the cable. If it is set to [O], the continuity of the wire will be signaled by a red LED. When set to [L], the green LED will light and a beep will be emitted. It is forbidden to check the continuity of live wires or in the electric circuit with this method.

Induction Method

It enables non-contact detection of AC voltage, also under plaster. For example, to check the presence of voltage in an insulated wire, set the tester to the [L] position. Then, holding the tip, bring the metal contact on the upper part of the handle close to the insulated wire. Lighting of the green LED and the acoustic signal will inform about the presence of voltage in the tested conductor. You can increase the sensitivity of the method by switching the button from [L] to [H].

This method also allows for "non-contact" detection of a break in a live electric wire. At the point of interruption, the tester will stop signaling the presence of voltage. You can also invert the tester and search for voltage with the tip of the tip. However, when looking for cables under plaster, be careful not to scratch the wall.
